I’ve always had a fascination with vintage clothing designs. While styles have changed a lot over the years, there are some truly classic vintage designs that continue to look good, or even better, as time goes by.
But what is “vintage” you might ask? It seems like one of those terms that are probably not well defined and vary according to the eye of the beholder –so I thought I’d try to come up with a definition. When I began my research, it turns out there actually is a semi-official definition of “vintage” clothing after all. The below is from Wikipedia:
Generally speaking, clothing which was produced before the 1920s is referred to as antique clothing and clothing from the 1920s to 20 years before the present day is considered vintage.
Fortunately, that’s pretty consistent with what I was thinking, so I’m happy to go with that.
We did a post last year focussing on vintage sewing patterns and where you can get them. Please check it out below. These were mainly original patterns from the 1960’s, 1950’s and before that are being sold by dealers and collectors today.
This time, I wanted to put together a collection of free patterns and designs, so here are more than 35+ vintage sewing ideas that I’m sure you will enjoy.
